SM LAW CONSULTING is founded and established by Sumeet Mhatre having more than 20 years plus experience, working in various growth and sunshine industries such as retail, real estate, and home finance industry. He has worked as an in-house counsel with various organizations such as SICOM Housing Development Co. Ltd., Tata Housing Development Co. Ltd., and More Retail Pvt. Ltd., (formerly Aditya Birla Retail Ltd.), a leading grocery retailer having a Pan India presence.
He was associated with ‘More’ for close to 14 years until Dec 2020 and was overseeing the expansion of ‘More’ brand of Supermarkets and Hypermarkets Pan India and also shouldered the responsibility of various commercial contracts for the brand including handling consumer issues and legal issues arising in daily business operations. During his tenure at ‘More’, he also amassed wide experience of dealing with food laws and legal metrology act along with advising various departments such as Marketing, Supply Chain, Private Label, Human Resources, Finance, Buying and Merchandising, etc. and played a pivotal role in standardizing Agreements and processes/ SOP’s critical to the retail business.
Apart from ‘More’, Sumeet also shouldered additional responsibility of handling the new store property acquisition of ‘Pantaloons Division’ of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., (India’s leading fashion retailer) including its Franchisee documentation and advising its various departments.
His forte is his extensive and thorough expertise in the corporate legal arena, as well as his deep knowledge of business/market requirements, which gives him an advantage in adding value to his clients' businesses by addressing the complexities of commercial transactions and long-term risks, such as Force Majeure events, giving his clients a 360-degree view on the deal. He has also been introduced to a vast amount of litigation and dispute settlement practice areas over the years, which he managed adeptly, and has provided consultation and written numerous contracts for the organizations he worked for, giving the organization an advantage.
He is a firm believer in prompt delivery, transparency, and a pragmatic approach. His services provide his clients with not only full versatility as an external partner, but also an in-depth comfort of an in-house lawyer.
